Mity Might Derby

First annual Richland Rod & Gun Club Fishing Derby

There were 19 entries at the Saturday May 15 Derby.

Tammy McMurtrey and Marilyn Steel provided the biscuits and gravy breakfast and drinks with numerous other goodies and then went fishing. Blast off time was at 7:20 a.m.. Richard Sharp explained the rules and area boundaries and the participants were off! The first to return was Mike Estes and Rick Libby with a good bucket of fish. Jim Cartmell and Larry Martin returned with trout from Power Line Lake and John Cooper, Travis Sharp and Keith Sharp returned with catfish and bass from the Yakima River “Y” and Brandon Sumner had bluegills from Quarry Pond. Special thanks to Greg Baker for helping with the setup design and photos for the weigh in with Paul Hoffarth assisting.

Winners

Winner of the biggest fish was Travis Sharp with a 5.10 lb catfish and a 2.10 lb bass and a seven fish total with a weight of 17.14 lbs. Second place went to Rick Libby with 14 bass with a total weight of 16.0 lbs, his biggest fish (bass) was 2.4 lbs. Most diversified species winner was Travis Sharp with catfish and bass (most weight). Others in the running were Keith Sharp and John Cooper each with two species. Other fish taken were Mike Estes with 7 bass at 9.8 lbs total weight, Jim Cartmell with trout at 3.9 lbs and Brandon Sumner with bluegill. Fish totals were 30.56 lbs bass, 15.4 lbs catfish and 3.81bs trout and sunfish for a total of 49.75 1bs taken with Mity might rod and reels.

Fish Fry

The fish fry went as planned with Richard Sharp and Dave Myers doing the frying with numerous other dishes brought to the potluck. There was plenty of food and drinks and a good time was had by all. Coffee and cookies were provided by LaNae Sharp.
